Commonly Asked Questions about ElderFriends Friendly Visiting Program:
Who are we?
- ElderFriends is a group of volunteers in King County.
- We are a non-profit program of Full Life Care (formerly ElderHealth Northwest).
- Volunteers are screened, trained, and supported by ElderFriends staff.
How much does this cost?
- Nothing.
What is this about?
- Our volunteers want to develop a friendship with an older adult in the community who desires to receive a regular visitor.
- The first 2-3 visits are on a “trial basis” so that you don’t have to make a decision right away about committing to a friendship.
- These are strictly friendly visits – if you feel lonely or wish to have company our volunteers can help.
How does this work?
ElderFriends staff will find a volunteer to visit with you. Once you have agreed to meet this person:
- They will first call you to arrange a time that is convenient to have them visit.
- If you decide that you both enjoy each other and wish to continue visits, our volunteers are committed to visiting you at least 2 times a month.
- All visits are arranged between you and the volunteer.
- ElderFriends staff will remain in contact with you throughout the relationship.
- You can stop any time you want to, for any reason.
How long will they stay?
- Volunteers will visit with you for about an hour.
- They will only visit for as long as you both are comfortable.
